Unveiling

Mom and dad came out for dinner today.  We were in for a surprise!  Mom decided she was not going to perm her hair that was going to fall out anyday, and it was becoming quite unmanagable.  SO...it all came off.  And I must say, she looked good to us!  The little kids were quite excited by the whole thing (aka Ethan). We also had a little show and tell.  So as not to leave you out, I took pictures.  There is a picture of the port.  She has 2 incision sites.  One you see really well in the picture, the other is higher at the base of her neck.  Not very noticable.  I was there, and didn't see it until the nurse pointed it out! And the big one is covered by her shirt.  It is right under the skin, so the nurse can feel where to put the needle in!  Pretty slick!  Tomorrow she goes in for the nader test,(white blood count), and we are pretty darn optimistic the count will be good!  Tuesday we are going to a class on wigs and scarves.  Two non hair people learning...hmm.  Wish us luck!

Update

So I understand I'm not doing a very good job keeping up the blog.  OOPS. Part of that is because I didn't realize people were checking it!  Leave a comment so I know your looking!!
I haven't seen mom since Friday, but Brittney was there yesterday.  She seems to be doing really well.
She has not been nauseated, but I guess everything she eats is giving her heartburn.
She gets tired really easily.  So all in all, we're in pretty good shape.  (WE, hmm...she might not agree!)
So, no appointments this week. YAY!  Monday she has an appt to have her 'nader' checked.  I believe that is her white blood count.  Tues she is going to some class they have to learn how to wash and keep up wigs, tie scarves, and hopefully get a lot of free products!!
Her next treatment is schedule for March 22nd.  So, hopefully things will be pretty low key until then!

Talked to mom this morning.  She is achy all over, but moving around.  I think our prayers have been answered!  She seems not to have too many side effects from the shot yesterday.  Brittney is up there today doing a little shopping with dad.
Mom's phone rings all the time.  Part of starting this blog is to give her a break from the phone!  Please post comments for her to read.  I'm not sure if I can get her to post anything herself, (you know how she is) but I will keep you up to date and informed.
Thanks for keeping her in your prayers!

Beginning

Hi all family and friends.  We have decided to start a blog for mom!  This way everyone can stay up to date!
So, yesterday was mom's first chemo treatment.  She is getting TCH regime.  This is Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin.
She made it through like a champion!  Morgan and I stayed here last night, (just in case) and gratefully, we all slept very well!  I'm taking her today to get her hair done.  Also, at 4, she goes back to the clinic to get a shot of Neulasta.  This drug could cause her ALOT of pain for 2 - 6 days.  I'm trying to remember all the details rolling around i my head, but if I remember right, this has something to do with her bone marrow.  It helps her white blood count so it doesn't get so low, and also, to reginerate the white blood cells faster.
I didn't think about it yesterday, but I will take some pictures next time while she's getting her chemo so you can see.
Gotta run her to her hair appt.  Thanks for all your love, support, and prayers!!
